T-55U Main Battle Tank

The T-54 and T-55 tank series were main battle tanks designed by the Soviet Union. The first prototype T-54 appeared in 1946. The tank entered full production in 1947 and became a mainstay of Red Army armored units, the Warsaw Pact countries and many other armies as well. T-54s and T-55s were involved in many of the world's armed conflicts and are still in use worldwide.
Following a series of major improvements the T-54 was designated the T-55 in 1955. The design was so successful that tens of thousands of them were built in the USSR, Poland (1957-1979 - ca. 10.000), Czechoslovakia and China. They were exported to as many as 50 other countries and were continuously upgraded and produced until 1979 (ca.100.000 ? pcs).
T-55U is a Polish T-54 upgrade to T-55 standards.
