2S7 "Pion" 203 mm Self-Propelled Gun

In 1975 went into production a new Soviet 2S7 "Pion" self-propelled gun. The
203 mm 2A44 gun is mounted externally at the rear of the modified T-80 tank
chassis. When deployed in the firing position a large spade is lowered to the
ground to provide a more stable firing platform.
The "Pion" has been the most powerful conventional artillery piece
since its introduction and it remains so today.
It saw action during the conflicts in Afghanistan and Chechnya
Producers:
- Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) "Kirovsk" Plant - tracked chassis (object
216) and final assembling,
- Volgograd "Barikady" Plant - artillery part.
Number built - over 1000 pcs.
8 pcs of 2S7 has been used by Polish Army since 1985 to 2006.
