S-75 "Dwina" (SA-2 "Guideline") Medium-to-High Altitude Surface-to-Air Missile System

The S-75 "Dwina" is a medium-to-high altitude surface-to-air missile system. It is a two-stage weapon with a large solid propellant booster stage. The missile itself has a storable liquid fuel rocket motor. The warhead is fitted forward of the main fins and behind the nose-mounted guidance assembly. Early warning and target acquisition is handled by the P-12 radar.

On 1 May 1960, near Sverdlovsk, USAF high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft Lockheed U-2 which was being piloted by Francis Gary Powers was shot down by an S-75.
