Yakowlew Yak-18

The Yak-18 basic trainer was a first soviet trainer aircraft with closed gear. Approximately 7000 Yak-18s were built in USSR and Hungary, between 1946 and 1957. This aircraft has been exported to many communist countries and to Austria. Delivery of aircraft to pilots schools of Polish Air Force began in 1950. After 1958 many aircraft was assigned to the civil pilots schools where they were using Yak-18s to eighteen years.

History

1952, Delivered new to East German Air Force.
14 Nov 1958, Registered DM-WDG to G.S.T.
31 Dec 1967, Cancelled as 'sold to Poland' - part of the exchange for SZD-9bis 1D Bocians.
22 Apr 1968, Registered SP-BRN to A.P.R.L. - sometime (maybe all ?) at Bydgoszcz.
25 Jan 1978, Cancelled as 'withdrawn'.
Museum acquired the aircraft on October 21, 1980.
