Mil Mi-4A

The Mi-4 is the first soviet cargo/passenger helicopter. It
has a big 4.15x1.78x1.80 cargo capacity. The first prototype made
its initial flight on April, 1952 and the same year all
production commenced. When production ended in 1964, ca. 3200
helicopters had been produced for the USSR and foreign users. The
545 helicopters were produced under a licensing agreement in
China (as Z-5). Northvietnamese Mi-4 equipped with guns and
missiles attacked American Forces near Da Nang on June 1968 and
destroyed one PCF boat.
Delivery of helicopter to Polish Army and Navy units began in
1958. Polish Army was using Mi-4 and Mi-4A helicopters as cargo.
In Polish Navy Mi-4 played a important role in sea rescue and ASW
duty.
