WSK Mielec (Mikoyan G.) Lim-5R (MiG-17)

The MiG-17 is an improved version of the MiG 15 with VK-1F new
engine. Although similar in appearance to the MiG-15, the MiG-17
has more sharply swept wings, an afterburner, better speed and
handling characteristics and is about one meter longer. The first
flight of a MiG-17 prototype took place in January 1950 and
aircraft had been produced by USSR between 1952 and 1958. The
MiG-17 was produced under a licensing agreement in Poland (as
Lim-5) and China as Shenjang F-4. Many MiG-17s were flown against
F-105s and F-4s USAF aircraft during the Vietnam War.
Deliveries of MiG-17 from USSR to Polish Air Force began in 1955.
The WSK Mielec Lim-5 made its first flight on November 28, 1956,
and when production ended in 1960, a 477 Lim-5 had been produced
for the Polish Air Force.
The Museum Lim-5R was by manufactured as reconnaissance version of Lim-5 fighter.
